Bearing my mind

In 2011, I can boldly say people voted based on sentiment, they voted in a mediocre into power, a man that cannot successfully run a local government, a man knowing next to nothing about governance and government. He employed feeble minds like him to paddle the canoe of the nation, among them is Madam Ngozi who is saddled with the task of managing the finance ministry and she was even elevated to the post of the coordinator of the economy, under the tutelage of both GEJ and madam, the nation went from frying pan into fire.
The nation has never had it so rough like this, the economy is grounded, no power supply, no fuel and gas supply, an economy they were boasting to be the largest in Africa, ''indeed the giant of Africa''.

Accountability in governance

Accountability is a vital tool in governance, accountability is being answerable for one's action. As an aspect of governance it has been central to discussions related to problems in the public sector.

Democracy is a government of the people by the people and for the people, going by the definition of democracy. In governance, two(2) elements are involved; the leaders and the followers. A leader is the person who leads or commands a country while a follower is an adherent of particular cause. A leader is saddled with the responsibility of over-seeing the equitable distribution of nation's wealth to the people in a country.

Nigeria as a country has been governed by selfish leaders, the leaders who put personal before the interest of the nation. Since independence in 1960, bulk of the money accruable to the nation has

My fear for Nigeria's democracy

Elections had come and gone, winners have emerged and some of the losers have taken their losses in good faith, some are taking their complaints to the election petition tribunals to contest the outcome of the election. After the last presidential election which brought to power General Buhari as the president-elect, the election was unique in the sense that the ruling people democratic party which has been at the saddle of affairs since 1999 was defeated by the opposition party, the All progressive congress for the first time in the history of the nation.

Also, the opposition party clinched the majority of the national assembly seats in the senate and the house of representatives thereby enabling the APC to constitute the majority in the national assembly, this enables the party to take over the leadership of the national assembly thereby relegating the ruling PDP to the background.

An open letter to President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari

The 2015 general elections ushered in a new era of change into the nation, the revolution that people have been clamoring for came in at last without bloodshed, it was indeed a bloodless revolution, the
victory is indeed unique for General Buhari in the sense that it was his fourth shot at the presidency after suffering defeats in 2003, 2007, and 2011. Indeed you have proven to be a resilient, determined
and dogged fighter that stood his ground despite the previous setbacks you had suffered in the past in your bid to become a democratically elected president of our country.

So on behalf of every Nigerian, I say congratulations to you on success in the last presidential
election. I personally deduced that people got fed up of impunity and corruption ravaging the land since 1999 when the Peoples Democratic Party ascended the throne of leadership in the country. I know very well that you know the challenges facing the nation, the major problem of this country is corruption, corruption is the bane of the problems of Nigeria, corruption has become a norm in Nigeria, the country has become a laughing stock among the comity of nations. Many acts of
corruption have been perpetrated in the petroleum sector but it is a shame that many of them have been swept under the carpet, but in you, the people see a man capable of truncating the wave of corruption ravaging the land.

Open letter to every Nigerian

The nation ushered in the year 2015 with great expectations, because it means so much to the nation's democracy in the sense that the much anticipated general elections will be held in few weeks time.

Elections make a fundamental contribution to democratic governance because the decision is made directly by the entire body of qualified citizens. Elections enable voters to select leaders and to hold them accountable for their performance in office. Electing a leader of one's choice is a duty of any well-meaning Nigerian. Since 1999 the nation has been practicing uninterrupted democracy but I can

Can the nation manage the population growth?

Population is the total number of persons inhabiting a country, the population of a country is determined through the census. Census is the procedure of systematically acquiring and recording information about the numbers of a given population.

In 1960, when Nigeria became independent from the British government, the nation's population was 45.2 million but in 1991, when another census was conducted in the country, the population became 88.92 million which showed a statistics of almost 200% growth in the population of the country. In 2006, the population of the country was found to be 140 million, as of today, the population is

The role of debate in Elections

An election is a formal decision-making process by which a population chooses an individual to
hold public office. Elections have been the usual mechanism by which modern representative democracy has operated since the 17th century.

The universal use of elections as a tool for selecting representatives in democracies is in contrast with the practice, in the democratic archetype in ancient Athens. In any election, public debate is a
significant tool in the process, because debate is a series of forums where people's opinions, interests and expectations are expressed on an issue that concerns the whole or part of the society. It offers a
platform where the aspirants will be able to voice out their plans on how they will go about their leadership if elected into offices.

Do our leaders have dreams for our dear country?

From George Washinghton to James Monroe, to Andrew Jackson, to Bill Clinton, to George W Bush to Barack Obama, none of these leaders had ever given a speech without mentioning the dreams of our fore-fathers in their messages, they don't only proclaim it verbally but their energy is geared towards the fulfilment of the "American Dream". Either elected into the seat of power through democrats or republicans, they have common goals to bring the dreams of their fore-fathers into fruition, they jettison their personal interests and pursue the American dreams passionately.

In Nigeria, the case is not the same, the leaders have no mission, goals and dreams for our beloved
